How Should My Restaurant Manage Used Cooking Oil?

We are often asked by our friends in the restaurant industry, “What should I do with my used cooking oil?”

This question is the core of our business. We know that cooking oil waste management and disposal can not only be a nuisance, but also a hazard for the workplace. From properly storing used cooking oil to knowing when it’s time for disposal, our team at Allied Renewal can help you every step of the way.

Once your used cooking oil is ready for disposal, we safely collect and transfer the oil to our recycling facility where it is filtered, separated and processed in an eco-friendly way.

So how should you store your oil in preparation for Allied Renewal pickup?

Let’s walk through a few common questions related to restaurant grease recycling.

How often should my business replace and recycle used cooking oil?

While there is no hard and fast rule to how many times you can reuse your cooking oil, the general rule of thumb is to replace the oil every few days or when it begins to change color or emit an odor. Some restaurants lean on the number of uses which will have them changing their oil 2 to 3 times a week depending on their facilities usage.

How should I properly store my used cooking oil?

Our team at Allied Renewal provides our clients with a range of specialized containers, tanks and drums for the storage and collection of your used cooking oil. We recommend storing these containers separately in a cool, dry, secure place safely away from workers.

Depending on your type of business and available facilities, we suggest one of our metal or plastic containers with tight-fitting lids that are specially designed to be used as oil storage tanks.

Additionally, it’s important to ensure that the containers are kept in separate locations and labeled clearly to avoid confusion with new cooking oil.

What do I do when my oil can’t be used anymore?

Give Allied Renewal a call! We efficiently collect and sustainably recycle your used cooking oil so that it can be repurposed for other useful products like renewable fuel. This eliminates excessive waste in your workplace while also reducing your carbon footprint and helping your restaurant do good for the environment.
